NAMPA, Idaho (CBS 2) — Some "little scientists" at Endeavor Elementary School in Nampa are experimenting with a new way of learning!
Each day, the first-graders in Miss. McCarty's class slip into lab coats for science class!
"A simple coat can really chance the way a child learns," said Tersa McCarty, first-grade teacher.
The goal, according to Miss. McCarty, was to make learning science more engaging and fun for her students.
"Giving them kind of that identity or persona of being a scientist helps them learn by giving it a purpose," said Miss McCarty. "They understand that this is somebody's job and this is the curriculum they would study and need to know. So, it kind of gives them that responsibility and purpose to what they are learning!"
Ms. McCarty posted her idea for the lab coats on DonorsChoose.org, a crowdfunding site for teachers. She said a couple of family members pitched in, then CapEd Credit Union paid the rest through its Get $100/Give $100 program.
The project in total was about $600.
